Sami Yusuf is Babak Radmanesh’s son!

According to Hamshahri Sami Yusuf who has been acclaimed by the Western media as the biggest ROCKSTAR of the Muslim world is as a matter of fact the son of Babak Radmanesh, the renowned Iranian composer! Sami whose real name is Siamak has also a brother with the stage name Baran whose music videos you can see in our video section!

Namjoo wont return for the play

Namjoo who is an academically trained actor despite his recent fame in music declined the offer to return to Iran and act in Siamak Sefri’s stage play “Chand taa aashegh to khiaboon Nasser Khosro”!

Ahmadinejad attacked for attending a musical!

The rightwing organ “Jomhoori” attacked president Mahmoud Ahmadinjead for attending the religious musical of “Rasoole Eshghe (va Omid)” because of the composer’s link to the old Pahlavi court! Even though the content was a tribute to the prophets of the book and president wasn’t the only government official who attended the performance he was the only one targeted in this campaign!

“Hami” is old news!

Some have written and asked me about a “new” self-titled album by Hami advertised on Barbad Music! Well as I had mentioned in my review that is not a new album but rather a re-release of his debut which was never released on compact disc! He is also to collect and release most of his songs for television on a forthcoming compilation.

POP bouncing back in Iran

According to Dashtgeli, a senior supervisor at Ershaad, of 81 permits issued in the last five months 51 have been for POP albums! Needless to say this is a great news for the domestic POP establishment which was facing a serious decline until just recently!

Zanganeh’s concert put under siege!

Pari Zanganeh’s concert in Gorgan was protested against by religious vigilantes of “Ansaare Hezbollah” who put the concert hall under siege and started to hold public prayer and mount the pulpit against the liberalisation of Ershaad in Gorgan!

Will artists defy Ershaad during Ramadan?

Ershaad has rejected all applications for POP/ROCK concerts in the upcoming days of holy Ramadan! Many arrangers and artists like Farman Fathalian whose events had already been advertised and have tickets sold expressed their will to go on with the concerts without permit, an antagonising act which Ershaad has officially recognised as provocative and will clamp down on!

Review Update: Poyan’s rip-off!

When I reviewed Poyan Asgari’s album “Mahroo” I did not know that the first song on the album was a rip-off! The song “Atre To” was covered from a song on Saeed Shayesteh’s debut called “Royaaye Shabaane”. The reason why I didn’t pick up on it while reviewing was because I had reviewed Shayesteh’s independent version of his debut album called “Ghasre Geli” (later re-released by Taraneh Records as “Ketaabe Sarnevesht”) which did not include this particular track! The credits should go to the Sweden-based composer Abi Yeganeh (right) and Iraj Parsifar (left) for the lyrics!

Eftekhari caught lip-synching!

Alireza Eftekhari stopped his concert in Rasht after having been booed at by the audience for lip-synching! He then left Gilan and the concert which was supposed to be held the day after was cancelled. After that the protests of the angry ticket-holders had reached the media Eftekhari blamed it all on the arrangers and the choice of location!

Namjoo in Holland

Reportedly Mohsen Namjoo has moved to Holland for a life and study in the European country! His immigration happened shortly before the sudden release of his legal debut and also the publication of the short article about him aiming to save the Iranian music in New Yourk Times. Its interesting to see whether Namjoo continues his plans abroad after the recent change of events or will return to Iran in order to pursuit a legal career!

New Release: Mohsen Namjoo - “Toranj”

And FINALLY the legal debut of Mohsen Namjoo “Toranj” is released on Barbad Music! After months of hassle with the authorities and some LA-TVs and also a great deal of controversies/publicity stunts in the domestic media, this is one of the highly buzzed and anticipated releases of the year which faced until just recently a definite rejection by Ershaad! Listen to the samples:

Aus Deutschland

Iranians in Germany are more than familiar with the face and talent of this singer-actress and the rest of us have heard her lovely voice in Navid and Omid’s debut album! Jasmin Tabatabi is releasing her latest album any day now featuring various POP-ROCK songs in English and French, and even one partly in Persian. The title of the album is “I Ran” which can be read “Iran”, reportedly a deliberate twist! You can check out the songs of the album here:

New Release: Afo - “Dance With Me”

Afo has released his 2nd album “Dance With Me”. There is no such a title-track on the album, neither in English nor in Persian! A very strange growing trend in the industry I must say, to have album titles in English without any relevance to the songs nor language on the album!

Hami: RAP fans are careless and decadent!

Hami seems to get more bitter and grumpy for each day, and I dont refer to the image above! In one of his latest interviews with Nasim Marashi, Hami justified the publishing of “Maahie Deltang” on his latest album despite the Sarfaraz brothers’ protest by arrogantly phrasing “we did it just to show that we can”! Furthermore Hami continued by claiming that Benyamin and his music are long gone from people’s memories since his music was not qualitatively timeless. He also attacked the RAP music and its fans in Iran by saying that it is listened to by careless and decadent youths! He suggests that our culture is being subject to erosion through the carelessness of the music industry and even blame music for the growing drug addiction amongst the younger population! He argues that people’s standard and taste have been severely lowered, so much that they don’t recognise and crave quality music anymore but rather disposable music of computers and synthesisers. However Hami also pointed out that not all people have hit rock bottom with their taste in music, otherwise no one would know him or Mani Rahnama! He protests that the era of “6&8” and (I quote) “Shadmher-baazi” is over! You cant bring people peace of mind through “shaad” and uplifting music!

I dont know what to say, all I know is that I’m liking Hami less the more I hear him expressing himself! Soon to be fallen completely from grace in my eyes!
